FLORA FUR

Overview:
A milkweed and linen based textile project, inspired by nature. Real animal fur is far from being ethical or sustainable — over 100 million animals are farmed and killed for fur each year. To prevent this suffering, flora fur offers an alternative to real fur, that is just as soft, without the cruelty. By bettering faux fur, we can finally end the use of real fur and save the many lives it takes.

Ingredient information:
Flora Fur is made of milkweed and linen. Hollow cellulosic fibres from the milkweed plant, referred to as the coma, are the main component of the textile.

Sustainability credentials:
Flora fur is 100% biodegradable as it only uses natural materials. Milkweed and flax plants are very sustainable to grow and require substantially less resources compared to more high intensity crops like cotton. They have complex root systems which act as carbon sinks — absorbing carbon out of our atmosphere and storing it underground”.

Application and use:
Naturally hydrophobic and insulating, milkweed coma can be used to create warm and water-resistant garments. Not to mention, these fur-like fibres are incredibly soft!
