Overview: 
Spidey Tek, Inc was founded in 2015 as a Material Science Company by internationally recognized bio-materials science expert, Roberto Velozzi, and Randy Lewis, PhD., the first to determine the molecular structure of spider silks and one of the pioneers in producing spider silk proteins.

”Through the marvels of genetic engineering, we have been able to identify all the spider genes that code for the production of spider silk proteins and have placed these spider genes in the leaves of the alfalfa plants to produce our Spider Silk proteins. Millions of acres of alfalfa are grown in the Western United States. This makes Spidey Tek’s access to hundreds of tons of Real Spider Silk proteins readily available”.

Sustainability credentials:
Industrially produced synthetic fibres rely on toxic solvents and high energy methods, with temperatures well exceeding 200 Celsius — even up to 1,500 Celsius in the case of carbon fiber. Whereas Spidey Tek are able to produce fibres using water as a solvent, and at ambient temperatures and pressures.

Application and use:
There are endless applications for spider silk, such as manufacturing of paints, coatings, resins, fibre-reinforced plastics such as polyurethanes and polycarbonates, 3-D printing materials, glues and adhesives, ropes, sports equipment, auto and truck chassis, airplane fuselages, bike frames and more
