GUNAS - MULBTEX

brown_1.jpg

Overview:
Gunas New York was founded in 2009 by Sugandh G. Agrawal and creates leather out of mulberry leaves — the same tree on which caterpillars of silkworm are fed. This new lather alternative was named ‘MulbTex’.

Ingredient information:
Gunas states that MulbTex is made from mulberry leaves that have been pulped to make paper. MulbTex compresses this mulberry paper onto a cotton backing and seals it with silicone.

Sustainability credentials:
Gunas are “bypassing the cruelty of killing the worms and extracting the silk protein from them and instead extracting it directly from the mulberry leaves”. Mulbtex is plastic & PVC free.

Application and use:
Light weight, water proof and weathers like real leather — Mulbtex is widely used to manufacture bags.
